Contables e incontables

Contables Incontables
an egg / three eggs rice
a bottle / two bottles water
a chair / six chairs furniture

Un contable singular necesita normalmente un determinante: a banana, the banana, my banana. Un incontable no lleva a/an ni una -s de plural: some bread, no a bread ni breads para hablar de pan en general.

Puedes contar un recipiente o una unidad: two bottles of water, a slice of bread.

Much, many y a lot of

Expresión Se usa con Ejemplo
many contables plurales How many cups do you need?
much incontables We don’t have much coffee.
a lot of ambos a lot of cups / a lot of coffee

Much y many son habituales en preguntas y negativas. En afirmativa cotidiana, a lot of suele sonar más natural: We have a lot of homework.

A few y a little

  • A few + plural contable: I have a few friends in this town.
  • A little + incontable: There is a little milk left.

Di some advice o a piece of advice, no an advice.
